Winchester Model 1876 Carbine
Winchester Model 1876

 

Winchester Model 1876 Carbine - "Centennial Model" distinguishable by the short 22 inch barrel and full wood forearm, barrel band and forend cap. Also equipped with a saddle ring. Eight shot lever action rifle in various large calibers. Serial numbers marked on lower tang.

MARCH 29 1866. OCTOBER 16. 1860.
Top tang marked "MODEL 1876"

Historical Significance:
Many of these carbines were issued to the North West Mounted Police in Canada. Most were stamped with the letters N.W.M.P.
Some '76 carbines are found with other Canadin Police stampings or militia markings. The North West Mounted Police and some militia used these carbines during the Northwest Rebellion in 1885.

Winchester Model 1885 made in various calibers, barrel lengths and weights of barrels. Falling block lever action single shot rifle. Made in a variety of configurations from the standard model to highly embellished Schuetzen styles.
